A few years ago Toyota in Brussels brought me in to do some training for their leadership team. The first thing they said to me was. “You must understand that our whole philosophy is based on kaizen.”
“What’s that?” I said.
“Kaizen means ‘continuous improvement,” they said. “We are all continuously trying in little ways to make improvements everyday. Even small changes each day can bring about big results.”
That really changed my life because I thought – well we can all do that. As an actor, if you’re practising kaizen, everyday, whether you’re in work or out of work, you’re making small but continuous improvements to your skills. Whether that’s training or practice you do yourself.
Think. How different will you be in just a month. How different in a year, two years?
